In recent years, the AEC industry has seen many examples of complex facade envelope designs. This workshop will explore different techniques for the rationalization of envelope surfaces for efficient fabrication, using a variety of plugins for Grasshopper. Participants will learn fundamental concepts of facade panelization, and optimization thereof, using Grasshopper’s optimization plugin Galapagos.
After covering a number of examples for facade optimization using Galapagos, we will teach a variety of advanced panelization techniques, using the dynamic relaxation plugin Kangaroo. The participants will also utilize the TT Toolbox plugin, which will allow them to track the progress of the design various iterations with Excel.
Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of Rhino and Grasshopper.

During the workshop attendees will use Ladybug + Honeybee for Grasshopper which connect Grasshopper to validated energy and daylighting simulation engines including RADINACE, Daysim and EnergyPlus.
The latest version of Ladybug and Honeybee and example files will be provided to attendees.

Beginners’ knowledge of Grasshopper is required.
This class will explore the integration of facade geometry and data from multiple sources with the goal of creating practical, streamlined workflows and enhanced interoperability. The class will explore workflow scenarios using a mix of design, analysis, and BIM software including Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, and Dynamo. We will also explore leveraging raw data for the purposes of visualization using Excel.
